Esther lived in Realitos, Texas until her graduation from Hebbronville High School in 1934. Esther moved to Laredo and lived with the Sisters of Mercy for two years. She became a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Laredo, Texas in 1936. She met Louis Paul Link and married him on October 3, 1938. Esther worked as a nurse until she began her family. After the last child went to school, she went to work at the Webb County Health Department and became head nurse in 1964 and for 15 years she held this position. Esther was a devout Catholic, a trait she has left her children and grandchildren. On May 7, 2009, Esther was awarded the “Crystal Cantu” Pioneer of the year Award by Texas A & M University. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Paul Link; brothers and sisters, Major General William Peter McBride, Gerald Joseph McBride, Mary Bernice Williamson, Margaret Celeste Pierce, Eva Belle Evans, and their spouses and Lieutenant Colonel John Clarence McBride. She is survived by her brother, James and his wife Leola; children, Louis Paul Link, Jr., William P. (Jeanne) Link, Esther Veronica (Milton) Greenwood, John Joseph (Carol) Link, Sister Mary M. Link, F.M.A., Lawrence Francis (Laura) Link, Marcella Ann (Chuck Cypert) Link, Jo Ann (Mark) Davis, Nicholas Joel (Nora) Link, Rosemarie Link (Pat Sullivan), Gerald McBride (Donnah) Link; 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Dovie McBride and Beatrice Link. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved relatives. Pallbearers will be her sons: Louis Paul Link, Jr., William P. Link, John Joseph Link, Lawrence Francis Link, Nicholas Joel Link and Gerald McBride Link.
