Obituary:
Harlan E. Bailey, 54, went with the Lord November 11, 2011 at his home in Laredo Texas. Harlan was born on October 24, 1957 in Laredo, Texas to Arthur and Pearl Bailey. Harlan was a proud family man and a patriotic American. Harlan graduated from Martin High School in 1975. He married the love of his life, Laura Sendejo-Bailey, on April 24, 1984. Harlan was the man of the house, the cook, and the family camera man. He often walked around in a flour-drenched Harley Davidson shirt with his camera close by. Harlan glowed of generosity and couldn’t help but to donate to organizations like St. Jude’s Cancer Research Hospital and the Big Heart Leadership Giving Club and was a believer in random acts of kindness. The Food Network and the Cooking Channel were his favorite television past times and where he found inspiration for many of his cooking experiments. Close family and friends looked forward to visiting the Bailey family because of Harlan’s welcoming personality, sense of humor and his fabulous cooking- smoked meat, fajitas, and monte cristo sandwiches were among the favorites. He was the proud supervisor of the FAST Enrollment Center for the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency in Laredo. Through his job, he had fantastic opportunities to travel the globe; like the six months he worked in Genoa, Italy and the year he worked in Montreal, Canada. Harlan was most proud of his beautiful children and all of their accomplishments. His family will remember him through not only all of the wonderful memories he gave to them but also through the music he loved by artists like Bobby Vinton and Merle Haggard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Pearl Bailey; and his eldest sibling, Elvie Helms.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Laura Bailey; his 6 children, Megan Wilson, Naomi Stolo, Tiffany Bailey-Armendariz, Hope Bailey, Cash Bailey, and Destiny Bailey; his 5 grandchildren, Elise Stolo and Shyann Stolo, Luis “Alex” and Natalia Armendariz, and Faith Bailey; 7 of his siblings, Arthur “Bill” Bailey, Richard Howell Bailey, Ellen Young, Edna Klingensmith, Elizabeth Hinkle, Eva Smith, and Edith Mills.

To the Bailey Family: I was a co-worker with your Dad, and retired a few years ago. I can honestly say that Harlan was well respected by the many people who worked with and for him. He epitomized what all other managers and co-workers wanted to respresent in a world of deep commitment to duty and hard work. He lead by example and never complained, always respecting other’s feelings and thoughts. You could always talk to Harlan and know that he listened and expressed his opinion honestly. I always respected and liked Harlan, as did many others, and he will be greatly missed by many. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with you. Juan Guerra

I was honored to serve with Harlan in Genoa and met his lovely wife Laura during her visit. Harlan always had a smile on his face and enjoyed life to the fullest. He bragged constantly about his children and family. Harlan was not only a valued co-worker, he was my friend and brother. To his family, my deepest and heartfelt sympathies on your tragic loss.

To the entire Bailey family please accept my condolences on behalf of the Boubel family. Harlan and I hade some epic adventures and narrow escapes as young men(stories that I will share with my grandchildren some day). I share your sadness at the loss of your husband, father, brother and my good friend. I will miss the hogrider. I will raise a beer and shed a tear as I remember him fondly and recall our many mis-adventures with a raised eyebrow and a mischevious grin....via con dios mi amigo.

On behalf of the United States Department of Transportation, Special Agents stationed at the World Trade Bridge we wish our beloved brother, Harlan Bailey a farewell full of God's blessings. I personnally will miss being able to visit with him at his office which was decorated with all his family's memories. He was so proud of all his family members and their accompishments. His wife and kids were the most important things in his life. He was a proud father and husband. He would rather hang a family picture instead of an award or a work certificate of his accomplishments.

My deepest condolences to the entire Bailey Family. I was privileged to have met Harlan along with his wife, Laura while attending Supervisor Training in Dallas, TX back in May 2007'. I will keep the tradition of carving the date and initials on the wine bottle cork in his memory to signify good times with friends! Will Romero

I would like to extend my personal condolences to the family and loved ones of Harlan Bailey. I had the privilege of working with Mr. Bailey when I was with CBP in Laredo from March 2004 until January 2009. He was one of my supervisors at Bridge One and also at the World Trade Bridge and I can say without hesitation that Harlan Bailey was a man who always treated me with the utmost dignity and respect. Anytime I needed help or advice he would always go out of his way to let me know that his door was always open. We shared many laughs and good times together during my time in Laredo and I am truly saddened at his untimely passing. His loss is a great one to the CBP family and he will be forever missed. Thank you Mr. Bailey for everything you ever did for me. I will never forget your compassion and your service to this great nation. May you rest in eternal peace with our Heavenly Father, and may we be reunited someday soon on those streets of purest gold! Matt Dillon - Supervisory CBP Officer, Houston, Texas
